Arrhythmia

Arrhythmia is a condition where the heart’s rhythm is irregular. This happens when its electrical signals don’t function properly, causing the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or erratically. Arrhythmias can cause noticeable symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath.

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is a heart muscle disease that can cause the heart to become enlarged, thickened, or ridged. This can weaken the heart muscle, causing it to pump inefficiently. This can lead to fluid buildup and irregular heartbeats.

CHD

Congenital heart defects (CHD) are heart problems present at birth. They affect the heart’s structure and how it works. Many types of CHD exist, some detectable before birth. Early diagnosis often allows for treatment options.

Extremity Pain

Extremity pain refers to pain in the parts of the body beyond the head and torso, including the arms, wrists, hands (upper extremities), legs, ankles, and feet (lower extremities). While these pains are common, persistent or severe pain should be evaluated to rule out other causes.

Pregnancy & Heart Disease

Pregnancy places extra stress on a woman’s heart and circulatory system, causing the heart to work harder. The labor and delivery experience also adds to the heart’s workload.

Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia, or high cholesterol, means there are elevated fats in your child’s blood which can increase their risk of future heart problems. Working with your child’s doctor, you can develop a plan to manage lipids and protect their long-term heart health.

Long QT Syndrome

Long QT Syndrome is a disorder of the heart’s electrical activity that is either inherited or caused by a medication or condition. Children with long QT syndrome may experience irregular heart rates, or arrhythmias, when exposed to exercise or stress, sudden fainting, seizures or even sudden death.

Syncope

Syncope (fainting) is usually triggered by the body overreacting to something simple, like standing up quickly. This overreaction can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, reducing blood flow to the brain and leading to a brief loss of consciousness.

Adult CHD

Congenital heart disease (CHD) affects the heart’s structure and function from birth. While some cases are diagnosed and treated early, others may not be discovered until adulthood. Our pediatric team has specialized expertise in caring for adults with CHD.
